Israel Pena

Israel began his dance career at the University of North Texas. As a student he performed and taught Salsa at both UNT and TWU with an organization named “Bailamos.” Eventually becoming President, he discovered and developed his love of dance and passion for teaching.

After graduating with a Degree in International Studies and a minor in Spanish, He began working as a Ballroom Dance Instructor in Grapevine. Since then he has performed professionally with his students and his partners in exhibitions across the area. His students have shown promise in the five dance scholarship challenges and continued to rank well overall in competitions including San Antonio and Las Vegas. He is looking forward to continuing to prepare his students and any student interested for future competitions.

Israel is currently a Teaching Artist with Dancing Classrooms of North Texas, a program developed in the New York public schools by Pierre Dulaine. As seen in the documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom” and the movie “Take the Lead,” Dancing Classrooms teaches children more than Ballroom dancing; building self-esteem, confidence, and respect for yourself and those around you.
